NLMAuto
DATA BASE NLMS: One common use for NLMAuto is scheduling the loading and unloading of data base NLMs
This is necessary to close all files associated with the Data Base to insure a complete tape backup.
The qualifier for determining if NLMAuto is appropriate for a specific database application is whether or not the database NLM can be unloaded naturally without a logical decision being called for during the unload procedure.
Example: Btrieve requires the command Unload Btrieve to be issued at the server console
When the Btreive NLM receives this command, all processes necessary to gracefully shutdown the application are controlled by the Btrieve software
No logical decisions or responses are called for as inputs to the console screen.
Specific Applications: NLMAuto can load and unload Gupta, Progress, Btrieve, and MDBS databases.
NLMAuto
Another common application of NLMAuto is to schedule loading, initiation, and unloading of tape backup NLMs
Even though some tape backup software NLMs contain their own schedulers, there is no reason to use system resources by having large NLMs loaded that are not active during the day.
Example: Sbackup must be manually loaded to initiate a backup
In addition, the Sbackup screen must be called and keystrokes sent to indicate user name and password, driver type and Target Service Agent
Specific applications: Some of the back-up programs that NLMAuto can schedule are, Arcserve, Palindrome, Maynard, and Sbackup.
